Benfica have set their sights on snapping up Diego Cavalieri this summer after holding talks with Liverpool over a bid for the goalkeeper.

Representatives for the Portuguese outfit met with Reds chiefs following their Europa League quarter-final tie at the Estadio da Luz on Thursday, with a view to offering the Braziilan stopper a career lifeline.

As Pepe Reina's understudy, Cavalieri, 27, has made just four appearances since signing from Palmeiras in 2008 and is keen to secure regular first-team action away from Anfield.
