Fluminense slumped to a second consecutive defeat

Fluminense slumped to a second consecutive defeat after a 4-2 thrashing at the hands of Santos.

This led to a lot of questions about the team being capable of coming closer to the top of the Brazilian Serie A table. As one of the experienced members of the team, goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri claimed that the team had to improve the balance in order to be more consistent when it comes to getting results. After making a poor start to the season, the club are in danger of finishing mid-table as a result of this poor form.

Even though the team has been doing well in patches,Cavalieri accepted the importance of playing well for the entire 90 minutes. One of the reasons for the inconsistent form according to the goalkeeper is the influx of young players into the first-team. He has recalled that the team did extremely well in the opening 35 minutes against Santos before slipping to a 4-2 defeat. The manner in which the team surrendered their good position was a source of concern, butCavalieri remains confident of returning back to winning ways when the team takes on Flamengo in the next match. However, Fluminense will have to do extremely well in order to get a win since the game is away from home.

“We have young players and others who are coming now. We’re alternating between good and bad times in the same game. We need to find the balance for 90 minutes. They are adjustments we need to do. In that game against Santos, for example, in the first 35 minutes were very good, pressing and goal. But after we gave a little space and they killed the game. Football in Brazil today is very dynamic. It’s hard to explain what happens sometimes,” said Cavalieri.

Diego Cavalieri wants to convince Dunga to play with Brazil

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri wants to convince the Brazil coach Dunga that he can play in the Brazilian squad.

He has not been selected for the Copa America, and he finds himself almost 4th in the pecking order. However, he has not lost hope that one day he will be able to represent Brazil.

At the moment, Diego Cavalieri is behind Alisson, Diego Alves, and Ederson. He believes that with the long qualifying campaign coming just after the Copa America he may have a chance to prove that he is worthy of representing Brazil on the world stage.

Diego Cavalieri, who currently plays for Fluminense, believes that he has the potential to represent Brazil and that he will do everything he can in order to get a place in the Brazil team. So far he has made only 3 appearances for Brazil and hopes that he will be able to increase this number soon. His last appearance for the Brazil national team was in 2012, and he has yet to be called by the current coach Dunga.

Diego Cavalieri will be best remembered when he played in the English Premier League for Liverpool in 2008. He was signed for a fee of around £3 million from Palmeiras. He could not establish himself as the first team goalkeeper and had to satisfy himself with appearances in club competitions. He never played in the Premier League for Liverpool but did participate in the League Cup, FA Cup as well as the Champions League and the Europa League. He left Liverpool only 2 years later as he failed to replace Pepe Reina as the first team keeper and signed for Cesena where he will stay only 4 months. He will then return to Brazil to play for Fluminense.
