Diego Cavalieri won the first of his three trophies with the Brazilian national team at the u-17 level. The shot stopper was a part of the Brazil team that won a second World Cup title at the 1999 FIFA u-17 World Cup tournament in New Zealand.

Brazil won the 1999 FIFA u-17 World Cup tournament by beating Australia in the final, while Ghana and the United States of America had to settle for third and fourth respectively. Diego Cavalieri was in the Brazilian squad that defeated Australia on penalties to win the tournament in New Zealand after the two teams had settled for a goalless draw.
