CAVALIERI HELPLESS IN HOMEDEFEAT

 

Veteran goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri couldn’t do much to prevent his club from a home defeat in the last set of Brazilian Serie A games. He was in goal for Botafogo throughout the game as they were beaten 2-1 by Bragantino. The away team came from a goal down to take the three points in the Matchday 21 clash on Tuesday.

Diego Cavalieri and his team took the lead through Matheus Bahia with one-minute left in the first half of the game. However, the hosts let the late first half lead slip through their fingers after Brazilian striker Ytaloequalized for Bragantino in added time of first half as the two teams went into the half-time break with a goal apiece.

The visitors were able to build on the strike from Ytalo as they went on to get the winning goal of the game through his strike partner Claudinho. The Brazilian scored the goal from the penalty spot with four minutes left on the clock. The result meant thatBotafogohas now lost their last two games in the Brazilian Serie A as they battle to avoid the drop at the end of the season.

With latest defeat, Botafogoare second from bottom on the league table with 20 points from 20 Brazilian Serie A at theaverage of one point in every game. They are four points from safety though a lot of the teams above them have played one game more.

Botafogo have only lost six games in the league this season but their greatest undoing has been the number of draws. They have the most draws in thewhole of the Brazilian Serie A this season with 11 stalemates. They are the only team with double figures for the number of draws. The experienced Diego Cavalieri would be hoping to use his experience to take his team out of the relegation zone.
