LIVERPOOL WIN FIRST LEG QUALIFIER

Liverpool won their first leg Europa League qualifier with the help of talented goalkeeper, Diego Cavalieri. In his first competitive game in charge, Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson left out 10 of his World Cup stars, including captain Steven Gerrard.

But Liverpool were comfortable, opening the scoring when Ngog lofted over the goalkeeper after a defensive mix-up.

Ngog's second was a cool six-yard volley from Martin Kelly's cross.

CAVALIERI CLOSER TO BRAZIL MOVE

Diego Cavalieri is closer to sealing his move to Brazil after it was revealed that Santos and Corinthians are interested in signing Liverpool goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri.

The 27-year-old is yet to make his Barclays Premier League debut and has been restricted to eight appearances since a £3million move from Palmeiras two years ago.

Diego Cavalieri is open to a move in order to get more regular action, but would prefer a switch to Spain and has been told to expect a pay cut for a return home.

BENITEZ DOESN'T NEED GOALKEEPERS

Rafa Benitez can rest assured that the goalies at Liverpool don't need adding to - so he can spend his transfer budget on some quality strikers!

Between the sticks, Liverpool have arguably the best goalkeeper in the League in Reina, and perhaps Benitez’s best signing thus far, and the Reds certainly don't need to look for a replacement for the Spaniard.

Benfica after Cavalieri

Benfica have set their sights on snapping up Diego Cavalieri this summer after holding talks with Liverpool over a bid for the goalkeeper.

Representatives for the Portuguese outfit met with Reds chiefs following their Europa League quarter-final tie at the Estadio da Luz on Thursday, with a view to offering the Braziilan stopper a career lifeline.

As Pepe Reina's understudy, Cavalieri, 27, has made just four appearances since signing from Palmeiras in 2008 and is keen to secure regular first-team action away from Anfield.

CAVALIERI: MAXI WILL BE GREAT

Liverpool goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri has welcomed the signing of former Atletico Madrid captain Maxi Rodriguez.

Maxi arrived on Merseyside in time to see Liverpool dumped out of the FA Cup by Reading.

Cavalieri told liverpoolfc.tv: "He is a good player. He has played well in Madrid and also for Argentina and I think he can help us. It is a good signing."

DIEGO CAVALIERI TARGETS FOR LIVERPOOL

Liverpool goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri has targeted a top-four finish and victory in the Europa League as the Reds recover from their FA Cup exit at the hands of Reading.

The Brazilian is already looking ahead to the weekend's game against Stoke City and insists that it is vital Rafa Benitez's men win at the Britannia Stadium. “We still have two more targets. The first one is the top four in the Premier League," the 27-year-old told the Reds' official website.

CAVALIERI: STOKE-ING FIRE

Liverpool goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri reckons the weekend's fixture against Stoke City will be a difficult game.

Rafa Benitez's men slumped to another defeat in the FA Cup Third Round replay against Reading in midweek and are not officially out of every competition except for the Premier League and Europa League.

Speaking on the club's official website, Cavalieri said: " Stoke will be a difficult game this weekend, but we need to go there and try to get the three points. There is also the Europa League, and we will do everything to try and win that trophy."

CAVALIERI OUT – FEDERICI IN?

The father of Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici has confirmed his son is attracting interest from Liverpool and has advised him to move to Anfield if a formal offer is forthcoming.

Federici, 24, was a member of the Reading side that shocked Liverpool on Wednesday night when forcing extra time with a late penalty and then winning 2-1 in the FA Cup third-round replay at Anfield.

CAVALIERI CRASHES OUT WITH POOL

The hoardings which blinked up the message "Visit Spain" seemed necessary on a night when Liverpool shivered and their new Argentine midfielder Maxi Rodriguez sat bundled up in a large red and white scarf, in the stands. Today Rafael Benitez may feel like never before that he is in need of some home comforts and Rodriguez must wonder why on earth he left Atletico Madrid in the first place.
