Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri was a surprise signing for Premier League club Crystal Palace when he signed for them on a short-term contract. Diego Cavalieriwas signed on a free transfer by the Eagles on March 2, 2018.

Diego Cavalieri didn’t make any appearance for Palace by the time his short-term deal ended at the club in June 2018. His last club was Brazilian Serie A outfit Fluminenseand his contract at the club ended at the end of 2017.

DIEGO CAVALIERI: PREMIER LEAGUE CAREER EXPOSED

Diego Cavalieri was one of the few international goalkeepers who flew under the radar during his time in the Premier League. The Brazilian shot stopper played for two clubs in the English top flight before returning to his native Brazil two years ago. He played for the two Premier League teams namely Liverpool and Crystal Palace at two different times. Diego Cavalieri was much younger at Liverpool between 2008 and 2010. The Brazilian shot stopper spent two years with the Reds and was involved in just ten league outings. Cavalieri, 38, was at Brazilian Serie A giants Palmieras where he had started his professional career as a goalkeeper before Liverpool snapped him up in the summer of 2008. The Reds spent just £3m on his signing and he went on to play less than a dozen games for the club in the Premier League. Left-back Fabio Aurelio and Lucas Leiva were the Brazilians in the Liverpool team when Diego Cavalieri joined the club and he was immediately handed the jersey number one previously won by Polish shot stopper Jerzy Dudek, one of the heroes for the Reds in the sensational 2005 UEFA Champions League final as Liverpool won the title on penalties ahead of AC Milan. At one point, Milan were 3-0 up before the Reds scored three goals in just six minutes to take the game into extra time and penalties.

DIEGO CAVALIERI: BOTAGOGO CAREER EXPOSED

Veteran Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri signed for Botafogoin the Brazilian league in 2019 and has featured regularly for the club since joining. The 38-year-old shot stopper was without a club for several months before he was snapped up by Botafogo as a free agent almost two years ago. His last team before Botafogo was Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Crystal Palace signed Diego Cavalieri on a short-term contract in March 2018 and he was with the South London giants for some months before his contract ran out in the summer of 2018.

Diego Cavalieri didn’t feature for Crystal Palace in any competition during his short stint at Selhurst Park. He was surprisingly linked with a move to Premier League moneybags Manchester City around that time but nothing came out of the transfer rumours. (more…)

DIEGO CAVALIERI: CAREER PATH REVEALED

Veteran Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieritook on the challenge of playing for the sixth club in his professional football career when he signed for Serie A club Botafogo in his native Brazil at the end of 2018.The 38-year-old shot stopper was signed as a free agent some months after the end of his unsuccessful spell at Premier League outfit Crystal Palace. He was signed for the 2019 season by Botafogo but he has been at the club since then.

Diego Cavalieri has played seven times for two-time Brazilian champions Botafogo this season with five of those coming in the league. He has played professional football for 19 years and counting. In addition, Diego Cavalieri has represented the Brazilian national team three times between 2012 and 2013. He was a Fluminense shot stopper when he made his debut for the five-time world champions.

CAVALIERI HELPLESS IN HOMEDEFEAT

 

Veteran goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri couldn’t do much to prevent his club from a home defeat in the last set of Brazilian Serie A games. He was in goal for Botafogo throughout the game as they were beaten 2-1 by Bragantino. The away team came from a goal down to take the three points in the Matchday 21 clash on Tuesday.

Diego Cavalieri and his team took the lead through Matheus Bahia with one-minute left in the first half of the game. However, the hosts let the late first half lead slip through their fingers after Brazilian striker Ytaloequalized for Bragantino in added time of first half as the two teams went into the half-time break with a goal apiece.

LIVERPOOL LINKED WITH BRAZILIANS

Premier League champs Liverpool are expected to reinforce this summer even though Coach Jurgen Klopp keeps lowering such hopes. The manager rightly points to the uncertainty post-Covid.


The Reds let the much talked about move of Timo Werner fall through, allowing the German join Chelsea. There have been talks of Thiago Alcantara joining from Bayern Munich but he would not come cheap. For now links to cheaper options are gathering momentum including Brazilian Under-23 Igor Gomes.

MAN UTD TO SELL DEFENSIVE TRIO

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified three players that are set to leave the club this summer. According to the Mirror, Solskjaer is ready to offload Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo as part of a summer clear-out at Old Trafford.

The report stated that Solskjaer has been told to trim his squad ahead of a busy summer for the club. The Red Devil’s transfer chief Ed Woodward is expected to back manager Solskjaer immensely in the summer transfer window, but the club wants to reduce their current wage bill before any addition is made. Squad players and players that don’t fit into the long-term plans of the club will be sold or released at the end of their respective contracts. (more…)

EDERSON OR ALISSON?

The Alisson vs Ederson debate. Two of the most expensive goalkeepers ever and both Brazilians. They’re solid goalkeepers, both in the top ten in the world to say the least, and to be fair it is a rather close one. But right now, Alisson Becker is the better goalkeeper according to former Liverpool goalkeeper, Diego Cavalieri.


Cavalieri stated the former Roma keeper has the edge when comparing the two stars. He stated that his composure and distribution ability is superior to that of his compatriot. Alisson was the starter during the last World Cup and currently he is Brazils number 1.

KLOPP MAINTAINS HIS TEAM IS FOCUSED

After going from a team that used to have Diego Cavalieri within its ranks to Alison Becker, Liverpool are on to perhaps their most successful season of the past two decades and Jurgen Klopp says none of the metrics flying around is strong enough to distract his players.

A win over Tottenham will mean Liverpool has the best start to a season in the history of Europe’s top five leagues. The Reds are poised to take their season tally to 61 points should they record a win over Jose Mourinho’s men and that will represent the 21st fixture of the season.

MANCHESTER UNITED VS LIVERPOOL REVIEW

The game between Manchester United and Liverpool on Sunday is likely to be a close and cagey affair. Both teams have been in contrasting paths with Liverpool very much the team in form winning all their games while United are closer to the relegation than the top four this season.


Despite this, like any derby game, it is a difficult one to predict as both teams can be influenced by emotions that play out differently on the pitch. One area that is interesting is the goalkeeping situation for both clubs.
